Recommended Event Setup: Offline Sensors

Conserv can alert you if a sensor stops reporting or even a gateway is shutoff. This can be useful to avoid data loss or even determine if there's a power issue in a space.

1. Make sure you've set up your notification settings and have entered your phone number if you wish to get SMS alerts. You will have an option of having SMS notifications, email notifications, or both.

2. Go to the event setup page: Screen Shot 2024-06-07 at 1.04.01 PM

3. Confirm that you have a "Global Sensor Offline" event setup and turned on, and at least one person from your organization is subscribed. We've programmed this event to automatically turn on for accounts with sensors, but it may be missing for older accounts that previously had no Conserv sensors in them.

4. IF you don't have the "Global Sensor Offline" event turned listed, click the purple "New Event" button on the top right of the screen. (NOTE: you must be an admin on the account in order to create new events).

5. Name the event something that will indicate that equipment is offline, something like "Sensors/Gateway offline"  or  "Offline equipment." In most cases, it's best to make the scope for this event "Everywhere," unless you have a sensor that you know will regularly be offline that may trigger this alert too often. In that case, you may want to select this alert to reflect all the sensors in spaces where you're especially concerned about connectivity.

6. When defining the event choose "Sensor Offline."

7. Setting up the "Event Trigger" is an important way to control how often we get notified by this particular event. We require the sensor or gateway to be offline for at least 3 hours before you can be notified. This is to avoid too many notifications from potential range issues, and some of our sensors such as the leak sensors only send a health reading every 2 hours. You can choose a longer period if you're tracking a sensor that continually goes offline.

8. The final step is to subscribe and to add additional subscribers to the event. If you want to subscribe someone that doesn't have an account, you can type in an email address and it will prompt the invitee to join Conserv so they can get the notifications. Remind them to check their personal notification settings!

9. That's it! You should get a confirmation that you've been subscribed to the event. So long as the event toggle remains on and you are subscribed, you will get the notifications. If you keep the event toggle on and unsubscribe, the software will continue to record events in the "Events" tab.
