Conserv designed the Smart Collection Sensors (SCSs) to run for 36 months sending temperature, relative humidity (RH), light, and movement readings wirelessly every 15 minutes.
The actual expected battery life is 48 months, but Conserv adds 12 months as a buffer. Temperature, extensive readings from SCS movement, and prolonged attempts to connect with the gateway can interfere with projected battery life. This extra buffer ensures that batteries remain operational even under variable conditions.
SCSs use two 3.6V AA Lithium Thionyl Chloride (LiSOC2) batteries, offering a total of 4800mAh capacity. On average, each SCS uses minimal power, consuming less than 50µA during sleep, which accounts for 99.9% of its operation. Data transmission, while more power-intensive, lasts only a few hundred milliseconds and consumes just a few mA.
LoRaWAN technology allows for efficient transmission, enabling SCSs to send data every 15 minutes while maintaining a long battery life—around 1500 days, or roughly 4 years, of operation.
Monitoring and Support
Conserv combines high capacity batteries and extremely low current consumption which means that battery life is something you should not need to worry about.
If you have an active monitoring subscription, Conserv replaces SCSs every 36 months, ensuring they stay functional without needing a battery change. If your SCS has issues before its replacement period, contact the Support Team. They work with you to diagnose the issue and get your SCS back online.
Battery Replacements
If you prefer to have extra batteries on hand, you can purchase Tadiran AA Lithium Thionyl Chloride 3.6 V Battery Non-Rechargeable replacements in the United States here. If you are in Europe, Tadiran batteries have a different model name: 3.6V AA SL-760 iXtra Tadiran battery.
If your SCS batteries run out prematurely, reach out to the Support Team so they can assist with troubleshooting and replacements. For leak detectors, replacing standard AAA batteries may be quicker via local purchase rather than waiting for shipment.
The Tektelic Tundra cold sensor takes readings once per hour while the Dragino leak detectors check in once every 24 hours. After you activate those devices, contact Conserv. Conserv will send a programming code snippet to change their reading and check-in frequencies to 15 minutes for the Cold Sensor and 90 minutes for the leak detectors.
Important Notes and Safety Warnings
- Do not attempt to recharge the batteries in SCSs. The lithium batteries are not rechargeable, and attempting to do so is extremely dangerous.
- Do not attempt to open any device unless instructed because some of their lithium batteries are not replaceable.
- Do not throw out Lithium batteries before the Support Team has confirmed you should do so.
