Install a Booster Antenna to Gateways

Booster antennas are a helpful way to get a little more coverage from a gateway to a sensor. Here's how to install them.

If your gateway has a good internet or cell connection but your sensors are just out of range of the gateway, you may consider reaching out to sales to purchase a booster antenna (specification sheet).

Instructions for Setting up the New Booster Antenna

  1. When your order arrives be sure you have the following items:
    • The new antenna
    • The installation bracket (with optional rod installation loops)
    • The coaxial cable and connector kit

  2. Make sure the gateway is off before you unscrew the existing antenna. In order to do this you must unplug the gateway and remove the batteries by unscrewing the backplate, lifting the batteries out, and detaching them from the gateway (a light pull on the plug from is all it should take).
  3. Thread on the adaptor to the gateway antenna connection (use the female-female part from the coaxial cable kit and pictured below).

  4. Attach the coaxial cable to the gateway.

  5. Thread on the adaptor to the new booster antenna. You may need to remove the white plastic cap first (use the female-female adaptor pictured here).

  6. Attach the other end of the coaxial cable to the adaptor on the booster antenna.

  7. Reattach the battery in the gateway, screw in the backplate, and plug the gateway into the wall.
  8. Secure the antenna in an upright location using the included bracket. The loops are there to serve as a pole attachment if that is your preferred method. A good rule of thumb for antennas are to install them as high vertically as you can to improve coverage.

There you go! Your sensors should start reporting again as soon as the gateway is plugged back in! We're hoping you see the benefits of the boosted range!
