Change Device Batteries

Changing batteries isn't something that has to be done often, here's how!

⚠️ This article only applies to Conserv Smart Collections (SCS) sensors.

We know changing batteries is probably one of peoples' least favorite things to do, so Conserv SCS sensors are designed for long battery life.  Battery life always varies somewhat, and can be shortened by temperature extremes, sensors that move more often than expected (triggering motion alerts), a prolonged time period where the sensor is trying to initially connect with the gateway, or variability in the manufacturing process of the sensor and the battery itself.  Thankfully replacing them is pretty straightforward.

  1. Unscrew the four screws on the back of the sensor that hold the two enclosure halves together.
  2. Carefully separate the two halves of the enclosure.
  3. Remove the old batteries.
  4. Install the new batteries, paying close attention to the way they are oriented in the sensor.

IMPORTANT: Battery orientation will depend on the version of your sensor.

  • If you have a v.1 or v.2 sensor, both batteries should face the same direction, just like they came out.
  • If you have a v.3 sensor, the batteries will go in opposite directions as you can normally expect in some other items like toys or remote controls.

The image above applies to the battery orientation for older sensors. Note both are facing the same direction.

v3 battery orientationThe image above applies to the battery orientation for newer SCS-3 sensors. Note they are now in opposite orientation.

  1. Make sure none of the internal cables have disconnected.  They are a tight fit so this isn't usually a problem, but it's worth confirming while the sensor is open.
  2. Reattach the two sensor halves, making sure no cables are pinched between the halves.
  3. Reinstall the four screws.
  4. Check to make sure the blue light on the back of the sensor starts blinking, that's how you'll know the device is reactivating.
