Verify and Update Firmware Versions

Conserv provides remote firmware updates for Smart Collection Sensors (SCSs) through its mobile app.

Important

This feature is currently in a beta phase. At present, only SCS-3 devices with serial numbers c006000 or above are capable of receiving these remote updates.

Firmware updates are periodically released to resolve support issues, enhance sensor performance, and enable new sensor features.

Update Firmware

Before you begin: Carefully read all the following steps. There may be tasks you need to complete beforehand, and it is important to ensure that now is the right time to proceed. This will help prevent any interruptions or complications during the process.

  1. Download the latest version of Conserv Cloud Mobile App to ensure that you have the latest version.
Note: While this is in the beta stage, ignore this step.
  1. Enable Bluetooth on your phone.
    1. Approve requested permissions for Conserv Cloud Mobile App to use Bluetooth.
    2. Approve requests to pair your phone with SCSs.
    3. Because Bluetooth has a short range, approach the SCSs that you want to update.
  2. Scan the area for SCSs.
    1. Open Conserv Cloud Mobile App.
    2. Tap Connect to Sensorsapp-connect-to-sensors
    3. If your SCSs are installed in an area with strong cell coverage, do not move them.app-scanning-nearby-sensors
    4. If your SCSs are installed in an area with poor cell coverage, move them to an area with better coverage. Your tablet or phone need to have a good internet connection for this process to run smoothly.

4. After the scan is complete, all of the Bluetooth-enabled SCSs that are within range should be displayed with a signal connectivity indicator. If there are no SCSs in the list, walk closer to the SCSs.app-connect-to-sensors-list

Note

If this is the first time you are updating firmware, the firmware version or serial number may not be displayed next to the SCS name. It is best practice to ensure that all of your sensors are running the latest firmware. So, if you update a different sensor than expected, that is okay—you will need to update all of them eventually.

5. Update the SCS if there are three bars of signal strength by tapping either Legacy Update or Connect.

  • If the sensor says Legacy Update, it is running on older firmware. Stay within close range of the sensor and, the sensor should begin automatically. If it does not, tap Legacy Update to update.
  • If the sensor says Connect, and there is an available firmware update, tap UPDATE FIRMWARE.

The firmware update process may take a minute or two, and you can monitor the update's status on your phone screen. After the update is complete, the sensor reboots. You will know the update was successful if you hear the SCS beep and Conserv Cloud Mobile App reconnects to it.

You can check for future firmware updates by connecting to your SCSs via Bluetooth.

Note

If you return to the "Connect to Sensors" screen and notice the updated SCS is missing, it is possible that you updated the firmware of a device that is not associated with your account. This can happen if you share a building or are near another Conserv customer. Firmware updates apply to all devices, but after the update, any devices not belonging to you will no longer appear on your account.

Verify Firmware Versions

  1. Enable Bluetooth on your phone.
    1. Approve requested permissions for Conserv Cloud Mobile App to use Bluetooth.
    2. Approve requests to pair your phone with SCSs.
    3. Because Bluetooth has a short range, approach the SCSs that you want to verify.
  2. Open Conserv Cloud Mobile App.
  3. Tap Connect to Sensors.

Conserv Cloud Mobile App scans for nearby SCSs and displays their firmware versions. If the SCS displays hyphens for the firmware version, it means that it is operating on version 1.2.0 or 1.3.0, which do not display the firmware version. In this case, tap Legacy Update to upgrade the firmware.

Support

If this update did not work, open a support ticket and provide the following information:

  • The serial number of the SCS that failed
  • Operation system version (Android or iOS)
  • Step where you encountered the problem
  • Your distance from the SCS that you intended to update
  • The quality of the mobile internet connection at the location where you attempted the update
  • Screenshots of the returned error
