It does not send readings until you activate it. 1. Check that the box has everything listed below. - Main Cold Sensor device - Antenna - Temperature and humidity probe on a 3-meter (about 10-foot) cable - Basic accessory kit 2. Confirm that your new Cold Sensor appears in Conserv Cloud. 3. Check that the serial number on the Cold Sensor matches the serial number in Conserv Cloud.*If your Cold Sensor is missing from your dashboard, or the numbers do not match, send a clear photo of the label on the device to Customer Support through a [support ticket](https://support.conserv.io/knowledge/kb-tickets/new?hsLang=en).* 4. Confirm that your gateway(s) are plugged in and appear online in Conserv Cloud. ### Activate the Cold Sensor ![](https://support.conserv.io/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Oct-07-2026-09-15-53-3803-PM.png?width=167&height=249&name=image-png-Oct-07-2026-09-15-53-3803-PM.png) 1. Place the Cold Sensor near a working gateway so it does not have range issues the first time it connects. 2. Find the **ACT** button on the device on the front of the device below and to the left of the logo. 3. Press and hold the **ACT** button for at least 3 seconds, then release it. *The LED below flashes green quickly five times. The device then tries to join the network.* 4. Wait for the green light to stay on for 5 seconds. *A solid green light means the Cold Sensor has joined the network and is online.* 5. Refresh the **Sensors** page in Conserv Cloud. *The sensor card shows the Cold Sensor's status.* To confirm the connection again, press the **ACT** button for 1 to 3 seconds. If the device is connected, the blue light flashes once and the sensor sends a reading. **Caution - Reset** Do not press the **ACT** button consecutively five times in a row. This puts the Cold Sensor back into deep sleep mode, and the red light stays on for 5 seconds. If this happens, press and hold the **ACT** button for 5 seconds to activate the sensor again. If your Cold Sensor does not connect, [contact the Support Team](https://support.conserv.io/knowledge/kb-tickets/new?hsLang=en). ### Install the Cold Sensor The Cold Sensor has a separate probe on a 3-meter cable, so you can measure conditions inside a freezer or cold room while the main device stays outside. 1. Place the probe inside the freezer or cold room. 2. Run the probe cable out through the door seal or the freezer's designated probe hole. 3. Mount the main device in a dry place outside the cold space. **Note** The probe measures temperatures from -40°C to 80°C (-40°F to 176°F). Set Up Alerts and Notifications 1. Sign in to Conserv Cloud. 2. Make sure your Cold Sensor is online. 3. [Set up events and alerts](https://support.conserv.io/knowledge/set-up-events-and-alerts?hsLang=en) so you are notified if temperatures go outside your acceptable range. ### Test Alerts and Notifications **Tip** The Cold Sensor warns you about temperature problems that could damage collections in cold storage. To make sure it keeps working and stays connected, Conserv recommends testing it with occasional regularity according to institutional policies. 1. Take the probe out of the cold space for ~30mins to make sure it takes at least one reading outside of your alerts. 2. Check that you received an email or text notification based on your settings. 3. Put the probe back in the cold space.
